Helping people understand the vital role of soil in the environment and training the next generation of soil scientists are important to Matapeake Soil & Environmental Consultants.
We have provided interdisciplinary soils training for the archaeological field schools at Washington College, Penn State, Juniata College, and Time Team America Josiah Henson Field School, and for the NY Archaeological Council Workshops. Matapeake Soil & Environmental Consultants partners with Soil Hub and the Center for Land Use and Sustainability at Shippensburg University to provide continuing education and professional development training for environmental professionals. We also support regional and national Soil Judging competitions.
We can create a training to bring soils information to your college or university, professional group, or company.
Soil monoliths – undisturbed soil profiles, mounted and preserved – are excellent teaching tools for times at which it is not possible to take people to the field to see soils. Monoliths can be used to discuss horizonation, soil forming processes, and the relationships between soil morphology and pedogenesis. Soil monoliths are appropriate to hang in environmental centers, classrooms, offices, and homes because, in addition to being educational, they are also beautiful.
We’ll make soil monoliths that tell the story of your sites.
